Internal steroids tend to be a fast working and effective treatment for skin disorders but come with a laundry list of negative trade-offs such as bone density loss, high blood pressure, weight gain, insomnia, thinning of the skin, depression and many others. Personally, I would rather medicate daily with cannabis because I experience most of these symptoms and have a compromised immune system which is another thing that can be affected when taking these medications. I am still experimenting with cannabis products to find what might work best for me to help alleviate my symptoms but I have felt an improvement since switching from pharmaceutical drugs to cannabis. This is not to say that I am not still consulting medical professionals like dermatologists and an autoimmune specialist but however, as far as treating my symptoms go cannabis has vastly improved my quality of life. Because everyone’s endocannabinoid system is a little different, what works best for me may not work as well for you so it is important not to get discouraged and experiment to find the best medical products for your body.
How Medicinal Cannabis Helps Me
Hello, my name is Tanyssa and I work for Beard Brothers Society. In addition to being an employee I am also a medicinal cannabis user. I suffer from auto-immune disease, which causes allergies and in turn a lot of skin inflammation and eczema. I have been in search of different treatments and products that might ease my symptoms since I was a child as unfortunately most of the treatments, like internal and topical steroids come with a lot of negative side effects. Cannabis has proven to be the most effective at treating any negative psychological symptoms that dealing with constant pain comes with. I medicate daily with flower or concentrates for depression and chronic pain and have found that to be more helpful for me and less hazy than any pharmaceuticals that I was taking before.
To treat my skin inflammation on my face I use 10 mg 3rd Fractional Distillate capsules as they are concentrated in a coconut carrier oil, so it helps moisturize. If you are anything like me and cannot handle scents this is a nice alternative to all the scented topical cannabis salves on the market. For less sensitive areas like arms or legs I use a higher concentrated 100 mg 3rd Fractional Distillate capsule as I found that when I put this one on my face it worked a little too effectively and can tend to make you kind of flakey, which is essentially what a topical steroid does. The only difference being that a topical steroid takes layers of your healthy and damaged skin away causing your skin to thin over time. THC has been proven to be twice as effective at managing inflammation than hydrocortisone steroid creams. When I am having a particularly uncomfortable day I like to use our Naturally Bare Bath salts, which is THC infused coconut oil and unscented Epsom salts. I will generally soak for as long as I possibly can and then I rinse off and moisturize within three minutes of getting out as recommended by my dermatologist. I use Aveeno (daytime) and Vaseline (nighttime) as I have found them to be the most gentle and hypoallergenic lotions that I can find for a reasonable price. If you find that your skin is cracking and bleeding I would recommend using calendula oil, evening of primrose oil and Vaseline, in conjunction with a low dose THC capsule to use topically as needed.
To treat my symptoms internally I have found that taking higher dose THC capsules has been effective both for pain and reducing inflammation. If you can use a higher dose CDB product like a capsule or phoenix tear in conjunction that would likely be your best bet as THC and CBD tend to have a synergistic effect when used together. CBD is effective in treating a variety of symptoms like nausea, chronic pain and inflammation. When my symptoms are out of control and prevent me from sleeping I use our 240 mg Indica capsule or one of our higher dose edibles to achieve sleep.
